Patricia's Bio:
Zalisko has wonderful early childhood memories of painting intricate Ukrainian eggs—one of her first experiences in the creative world. Many years later, her powerful and evocative abstract work often echoes the bright coloration and cipher of pysanky.
Born and raised in New York City, she was encouraged by her parents to pursue a practical career. She practiced law until moving to Florida in 2004, retiring from a successful legal career. She nonetheless remained immersed in NYC’s rich visual arts environment and continued to study art and art history while living there. In her new Florida environ, Zalisko fully embraced her desire to paint. She broadened her innate knowledge by studying with coaches such as Harold Garde and Steven Aimone, both of whom recognized her talent and commitment to creating art. She studies regularly in residency programs at major art centers and a local university.
Over the past several years, Zalisko’s work regularly appears in exhibitions and private and public collections in New York City, other major cities in the United States and abroad.
Artist Statement:
Graffitied walls in a bustling city, spacious plains, luminous waterways, sights spied while speeding down a highway, smells of the sea or the ghetto -- these are the fleeting moments that my work captures. Sensed rather than seen, they are flashes from peripheral vision, distant and faded recollections. The paintings document a kind of everyday history, arrested images and feelings stirred and rekindled from the ashes of extinguished moments.
