Artist's Statement:

The respect that Richard W. Rosen has for the complex relationship between nature and the manmade world is evident through the fragmentation in his work which serves as a metaphor for this constant struggle to find balance. The whole (earth) must be considered greater than the sum of its parts; without balance our existence is in jeopardy.

Organic and geometric forms, along with highly textured surfaces, can be found in Rosen’s colorful abstract, mixed media sculptural work. Combining sculpture, painting and, in the case of wall pieces, woodworking, Rosen’s art reflects his varied life experiences. Through improvisation and spontaneity, his work evolves- inspired by shapes, textures and colors found in nature and manmade forms. Clouds, rocks, trees and city skylines provide organic and geometric abstract imagery while dreams and exotic elements further inspire Rosen’s work. His desire to challenge shape is enhanced by a passion for color. Rosen wants his art to be stimulating and open to interpretation by viewers who are encouraged to use their imagination while contemplating it.
