Roberta's Bio:

In my paintings I take you on a journey with diverse pieces of visual information, still life painting, text, and abstract elements. This journey is not meant to be completely smooth, with clear direction to all of the information made obvious.  Some elements are intentionally used to obscure a clear view of other elements in the painting.  In addition, the text that I use is generally in classical languages-- Latin and Greek-- or in other languages and using other writing systems.  I make the path more of an adventure, using the visual tools at my disposal to bring dimension to the meaning communicated, to show life richly and fully textured.  We don't see all that goes on in the real world; life is full of mystery.  My practice of obscuring some elements, be they words or objects in the still life, is meant to mimic this reality that the universe is bigger than what we can grasp.
