Terrie's Artist Statement:

“My canvas is glass. I paint with vitreous enamels and use traditional painting and drawing techniques to attain and express the imagery in my work.  The paintings are often expressive and abstract.  I want the viewer to experience the emotion and energy used to create the piece when they look at the paintings.   There is an element of surprise when you combine the act of painting with the capricious nature of kiln fired glass. This is both the challenge and the reward!”

Bio:
Terrie and her husband of 46 years, Chuck Corbett, share a studio in Tallahassee, FL. They have always shared an interest in the visual and performing arts. They first met at a symphony rehearsal in Charlotte, N.C.  They both love animals and have welcomed a variety of fur, fin, and feathers to their family. Terrie has a BFA in painting and drawing and completed 36 MFA hours. She exhibited her paintings and drawings for many years before she began working with glass 14 years ago. Terrie is a longtime member of the Artists’ League for the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts. She is also a member of the Florida Artists Group (FLAG), The Thomasville Collective, and the Southern Art Glass Alliance (SAGA). She has served as an artist liaison on the FL Committee for the National Museum of Women in the Arts, as Artists’ Representative on the Board of Directors for the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts, as a member of the Board of Directors for The 621 Gallery, and she is currently serving as Director for Area 9 for the Florida Artists Group. Since 2001, in addition to exhibiting, she has curated, mounted, or coordinated six exhibitions for regional visual art centers, museums, and art spaces. In September 2013, her work was accepted in “Pinnacle 2013 a National Juried Exhibition at Foster Tanner Gallery where she received a first place award. In June of 2013, she coordinated an exhibition “Glass at the Walmsley” for the Walmsley Gallery at the FSU MoFA. It featured emerging and established artists in glass. During the summer of 2013, Terrie was notified that one of her pieces was now included in the permanent collection of the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts – the result of a gift when Sonia and Stanley Cohen left their large contemporary collection to the museum. Terrie’s work is represented by Kittrell/Riffkind Art Glass in Dallas, Texas and Signature Gallery in Tallahassee, FL.
