Daniel's Biography:

Dan Houston, formerly of New York City, was transplanted to Houston, Texas more than 30 years ago and has been a proud Houston resident every since.  A mecca for artistry and fine art Houston was the ideal place to cultivate his love for art, which he developed as a small child, creating his first masterpieces with crayon on brown paper bags…and his mother’s walls.
Houston’s natural artistic talents were nurtured at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and Cooper Union School of Art.  Since that time his unique art has been showcased at countless galleries around the country.

The art of Dan Houston is easily identifiable and distinct for his trademark use of courageous, contrasting colors as described by aficionados as “fearless” and “bold”.  When these very striking colors are combined with passionate brush stokes
Houston’s abstract artistry gives the viewer a sense of strength and empowerment.
Though varied in his artistry ranging from realism to sculpture to the abstract, Houston chose to pour his professional focus into abstract expressionism, noting that he could express his feelings and ideas more passionately through the abstract than he could through realism.  Most of Houston’s artistry is acrylic on paper, canvas and on Masonite wood.  When he sets the creative atmosphere with the cool tunes of jazz legends in his studio, his innermost thoughts and ideas come to life on canvas-he even daydreams in Technicolor.  His music of choice is jazz, which he hears in color.

Houston’s works decorate the private collection walls of such upscale Houston landmarks as Marathon Oil Company and Cantoni Furniture, as well as individuals and art galleries throughout the greater Houston area.

Dan has relocated to Sarasota Florida where he will be creating and exhibiting his work.  In the future his gallery may be inviting other artists to showcase their work.  The gallery will be under the banner of Architectural Wall Décor Art Gallery.

Artist Statement:

I   am a contemporary abstract artist.  Color, shape, light and music, preferably    jazz are incorporated in my thoughts and vision before any painting image is begun.  Sometimes I start with a singular thought and allow the paint and canvas to develop the message.  My art is strickly created from the mind, heart and soul.  To me art is a feeling, with the intention to connect with the viewer or collector.

My art is usually identifiable and distinct because of the strong, bold and contrasting colors and then there are times when my desire is to create a soft and gentle piece with subtle color combinations.

Abstract art in particular can allow the viewer to see and feel what I am painting or to create their own vision.

My collections have expressed how the art moves them in a heartfelt way; uniquely happy, an unexpected flutter or a special memory.

Most work is acrylic on canvas, paper or Masonite wood.
