Cheryl's Bio:

Several generations of artists led Cheryl to this point in her life. Her interest in Art has always been a part of who she is. With her talent in art being recognized early, she was awarded scholarships to the local art gallery in Rochester, NY. Being accepted into an early study program at the Rochester Institute of Technology fired her desire to study at this school. This she did, majoring in illustration.
While at RIT, she met her husband Tom, a citizen of Germany. Several years later she moved with her husband and young child to Stuttgart, Germany, which became her home for the next 24 years. During this time she worked for the US Military in their recreation department as “Artist in Residence” doing
whatever was required in the way artwork. Ultimately, she became a manager of an Arts and Crafts Facility for the US Military, teaching various art forms. During this time she also became a master quilter, teaching this discipline for eight years. Along the way she picked up her BS Degree from SUNY at New York.
With the retirement of her husband, they moved to Switzerland in “95. The thirst for adventure took them on her husband’s self-built sailing boat to the Mediterranean and onward to Gibraltar, the Atlantic, and Caribbean landing in the States months later. After five years of the gypsy life between boat and Switzerland, Cheryl and her husband settled in SW Florida.
At this point she became very active in the local Art League, the Alliance for the Arts, and the National League of American Pen Women. She has been accepted in many juried exhibitions and won a variety of prizes as well.
When in Cape Coral, she teaches beginning and intermediate watercolor classes at her studio. If interested feel free to contact her.

Artist Statement:

The Creative process is a combination of the internal or emotional impact on the external or visual concept. This is internalized through the intellectual or the emotional. All of these influences come together when creating a painting. When viewing a piece of work all of our experiences and emotions up until this moment play a role in how we will perceive the artistic creation before our eyes. A result of this process is the total subjectivity of the opinion of the viewer. As you take the time to view my work on this web site…it is my wish you will take something with you that will enhance your pleasure in the creative process.
My work is a continuously evolving development of form and color, the intertwining of nature and the abstract. Color is the light of my life and the foundation of my work. At the moment I am fascinated with the intertwining of realism in the abstract. I would hope that my paintings bring a feeling of enjoyment to the viewer.
