Nadine's Artist Statement:

The abstract expressionist work of the early 20th century liberated artists to invent and explore. The paintings and drawings titled Images of the Mind explore concepts of automatic drawing, surrealism and allow me to interpret the elusive qualities of time and energy.

Although the drawing surface is two-dimensional I think of it as a plastic space and apply the material much like a sculptor working in clay. Color is added with paint, pastel or colored pencil and subtracted with a rag, chamois, or eraser to shape the forms. Paintings are executed on paper and canvas.

I work in a sketchbook developing my ideas. Although I have a plan, while drawing and painting I also respond to what appears on the surface. My goal is to create seductive surfaces and provocative forms that involve the audience in a visual adventure discovering new associations and deeper meaning. Paintings on this site are from this collection.

Arts Educator:

Professionally, I created educational materials in the arts at CEMREL, Inc. a national research and development laboratory, directed a NEA Artist-In-Residence program, taught visual art at Chicago State University and was the Executive Director of the Illinois Alliance of Arts Education

I received my undergraduate degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and post graduate degrees at the University of Illinois, Champaign, and Michigan State University, East Lansing.

I work on my art full time in both Chicago and Boca Raton, Florida. In Chicago my work is on display at the Curly Tale Gallery in FL. and I am a member of the Chicago Artist Society. I exhibit regularly with the National Association of Women Artists, FL Chapter, Florida Artists Group, FLAG, the Boca Raton Museum Artist Guild, and in competitive shows nationally.
