Artists Bio:

Wendy immigrated to United States in 1971 from Australia, and has lived in Fort Lauderdale, since 1973.  She and her family moved for one year to live in Nigeria, and all these experiences have profoundly influenced her art.

In 1984, she graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science in Education while simultaneously studying some art courses.  A life-long learner, and a self taught practitioner, Wendy has been active in the South Florida studio arts scene since 1998.  She has exhibited widely at a variety of venues in various locations throughout the United States. The development of her work has been facilitated by the acceptance into the Directed Individual Study Programs, located in Maine, and New Smyrna Beach,FL.  She continues to attend various seminars offered by artists, whose interest aligns with her own.  Various organizations have invited Wendy to present demonstrations of her techniques to various groups throughout South Florida.

In the future, Wendy plans to join more organizations in the state of Florida and expose her work to a broader audience. Her generous spirit works with the community by donating her paintings to raise money for organizations such as the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theater and AIDS Awareness organizations.  She also plans to offer  her services as an art teacher to young children.

Artist Statement:

Ms. Nicholas explores the remembered, through color and abstract techniques, and in turn she captures the feeling and power of Australia, her native country.

As a world traveler, she is interested in exploring idioms of known cultural expression and social experience as it relates to her past and present. Her work aligns with issues of the human condition and human space, and relates mostly to her memories of places.  These works express moments of joy, trauma and experience and they are purposefully raw, rustic and textured.
