Artist Bio:

Leslie is a fifth generation Floridian. She was introduced to painting by her grandmother Olivia Whitaker who was an accomplished oil painter. Leslie studied art history, painting,
and constructive design at Florida State University and has a BS in Art Education. She had a long career as a Realtor and painted along the way. For the last decade she has painted full time and exhibits her work throughout the Southeast.

Artist Statement:

My paintings feature texture, light or heavy; marks of all kinds; deep colors; patterned backgrounds; drips and various mediums. They convey energy, lyrical or frenetic. They convey mood, serious or lighthearted. I find the painting process exhilarating. I feel successful when I believe the last one is my best one.
While a few are difficult to plan and execute & others come easily, I usually think “Wow, that was fun!” when I finish.   I am a solitary painter and am not comfortable being watched, but when finished and happy with a piece, I am very interested in the viewer’s reaction and comments.  Sometimes what they see or feel about it greatly surprises and intrigues me.  I try to paint weekly, if not daily, and produced 64 in 2015.
