Artists Bio:

Patrice Burkhardt was born and raised in the South (Houston; New Orleans and Southern California) obtaining a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She later received a Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Florida which enabled Miss Burkhardt to teach (another passion) while continuing to complete graduate level painting and drawing coursework online through the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Her artistic convictions were so strong, she traveled to France in 1998 where she painted for two weeks in Monet’s Garden in Giverny, France. Upon her return to the States, Miss Burkhardt began seriously exhibiting her work, becoming a member of the Florida Artist Group in 2000. To date, Patrice Burkhardt has exhibited her paintings in more than forty venues, five of which were national juried competitions and in 2014 she self-published an eBook entitled: I Left My Heart in Monet’s Garden: An Artist’s Journey in France (Amazon.com).

This past year, I took online coursework centering around composition. My first set of courses were with Zoey Frank on Multiple Figure Composition. The second set of courses centered around Landscape composition with Ian Roberts. Both kept me active with artists around the world and learning new ideas and concepts during the pandemic.

Artist Statement:

As an American Impressionist I explore color and light, while utilizing traditional techniques. This creates a soft tonal haze of memories being recounted.

My inspiration begins with memories – sometimes mine, sometimes others.

Current Employment:

I teach full-time as an Elementary Art Instructor in the Collier County School District. Working with the little ones is both awakening and hugely rewarding. Peter Kahn, Wolf Kahn’s older brother and past Art Professor of mine, once told me, “work with the little ones…it will keep your work fresh.” I did. It does.
