Lynn’s Bio:

Born in 1949, in south Florida, Lynn Foskett was educated in the South, Midwest and Northeast, including study abroad. Receiving a strong visual arts background in her early college career, with a focus in fashion illustration, she earned her BFA degree in painting from Northern Illinois University. Returning to Florida, Foskett joined the Professional Association of Visual Artists (PAVA) and was juried into the Florida Artists Group (FLAG).

Foskett continues to grow her work through participation in area programs and workshops such as: programs offered by Creative Pinellas; Morean Arts Center (juried into the BIG INK woodblock print workshop); and workshops led by established artists: photographer Anna Tomczak,  printmaker Linda Berghoff, and mixed-media artist Elena De La Ville.

Her work is exhibited throughout Florida, in 2019 as Artist in Residence for Pinellas Community Foundation’s Act II: Aging in Place program and the Gallery221@HCC exhibition: 130 Years: Lynn Foskett, Leslie Neumann, and Roberta Schofield. She was one of the nine recipients of  the Creative Pinellas 2019/20 Emerging Artist Grant.

Foskett’s work is held in private and public collections throughout the United States and Canada.

 Artist Statement:

While traditional approaches continue to inform my work, experimentation with different mediums, tools and materials is central to my practice. These have included: sewn and stuffed canvas forms; oil and cold wax medium; digital drawing; handmade books; shaped and layered substrates; and incorporating found objects to name a few.

My current work is an exploration of our perceptions and how we make sense of them, as conveyed through the filter of memory. I often use the chair as a metaphor for this exploration – as a “conveyance of memory,” if you will.

Education:

1975 Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, IL
1970 Associate Degree, Garland Jr. College, Boston, MA
